Van der Valk’s third Explorer yacht takes shape

Wide range of fully custom features on raised pilothouse model
Van der Valk Shipyard in the Netherlands is hard at work on the third motoryacht in its impressive Explorer line. The hull and  superstructure have been completed and have recently “married” inside our brand new production facility. Ordered by a repeat client, the 28-metre raised pilothouse yacht will incorporate a comprehensive range of custom options, including a unique interior.

Designed by Guido de Groot, Van der Valk’s long-range Explorer motoryachts seamlessly merge the timeless with the daring while providing an exceptional range and resistance to the toughest environments. The third yacht is an excellent illustration of the many qualities offered by the Explorer range, yet packs a punch all of her own in terms of design, comfort and appearance.

Truly unique
The interior will be characterised by several unique traits in terms of structure, layout and décor. “This yacht has amazing volume for a 28-metre yacht with all the interior living spaces being on the same level,” says designer Guido de Groot. “Another exciting feature is the direct entrance from the saloon to the beach club. The large sauna area in the beach club is impressive in its own right, and also has two substantial windows that provide a cool view to the outside.”
The interior style will be like nothing that Guido de Groot or Van der Valk have produced in the past. “The owner has asked us to develop an industrial flavour. We’ll make the most of the space available – especially in terms of height – giving the yacht a loft feel complete with exposed structural components and tough design elements. Another key aspect will be the way the outside colour scheme blends over into the interior. This was another specific wish of the client and is being incorporated within the interior design from the outset.”
All these original features complement the already impressive design of the Van der Valk Explorer line, adds De Groot. “I am a big fan of the sturdy raised pilothouse trawler look, and this yacht is an excellent example of a robust explorer that looks great and provides a no-nonsense, practical platform for discovering the world. Being designed as a real family boat, she is also suitable for small children.”
Comfort assured
The combination of an all-aluminium construction, fast displacement hull and twin MAN V12 1650 hp engines will give the yacht a top speed of around 20 knots, with zero-speed gyroscopic stabilisation ensuring optimal comfort. The layout of each deck has been developed in a way that allows all onboard to make the most of the different environments they encounter on their travels.
